BIOGRAPHY
Rui Dias Monteiro (Castelo Branco, 1987) is a visual artist, poet, and curator. He lives and works in Lisbon.
He is currently doing a master's degree in Curatorial Studies at the University of Coimbra (2025/2027). He has a postgraduate degree in Discourses of Contemporary Photography at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Lisbon (2015/2016), studied Artistic Production at the António Arroio School (2007/2010), and completed the Advanced Course in Photography and Individual Project at Ar.Co – Center for Art and Visual Communication (2005/2008).
Received the BF16 Award — Vila Franca de Xira Photography Biennial (2016).
Artist-in-residence supported by the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation and the Armando Alvares Penteado Foundation in São Paulo (2017).
Has participated in collective and individual exhibitions, such as "O vento como monumento" (at Pó de Vir a Ser, Évora, in 2023), "Concreto com árvore" (at Fábrica das Palavras, Vila Franca de Xira, in 2018), "Sobre cada erva" (at Espaço Arte Tranquilidade, Lisbon, in 2014) and "As couves dormem sem manta" (at Galeria Alecrim 50, Lisbon, in 2013). He has published the books “Poemas copiosos” (Coleção Alvores, 2021), “Basta que um pássaro voe” (Terceira Pessoa, 2020), “João José Maria Calhau” (self-published, 2020), “Cidade cinza” (STET, 2018), “Reunião de pedras” (não edições, 2018), “Fazer fogo À noite” (não edições, 2014) and “Sob cada erva” (STET, 2014).
He has worked in cultural mediation, having worked at MAAT, Museu da Carris, Biblioteca de Alcântara and Culturgest. He regularly collaborates with cultural associations such as Lugar Específico, Terceira Pessoa, Pó de Vir a Ser and Aderno.
He is a gallery manager at Salgaderias Arte Contemporânea.
